Forecasting for Energy Communities: Seeking Partners for Field Tests

Salzburg Research is developing forecasting services for energy communities and is seeking partners who have practical experience in this area. The aim is to align local energy generation and consumption more effectively, adjusting forecasts early on to meet actual demand.

Energy communities are tasked with balancing local electricity generation and consumption as efficiently as possible. Accurate load flow and generation forecasts can help them use available energy more efficiently, plan flexibility more effectively, and make data-driven decisions.

Salzburg Research is currently developing forecasting services tailored specifically to the needs of energy communities. The research team has extensive experience in time series analysis, data-driven modeling, and developing forecasting algorithms.

To ensure the resulting solutions provide real added value, Salzburg Research is opening up the development process to energy sector partners at an early stage.

Incorporating practical knowledge early on

The planned service is still in the early stage of development. Therefore, Salzburg Research is not looking for traditional customers but rather for partners who can provide real-world requirements, help design initial prototypes, and participate in discussions about pilot testing under real-world conditions.

The focus is on questions such as the following: What kind of forecasts do energy communities actually need? What level of accuracy is required for planning and operations? Which technical and organizational interfaces are relevant? How can forecasting services be effectively integrated into existing platforms and processes?

Seeking partners for exchange and trial operations

Salzburg Research is looking for:

  • Energy communities that want to optimize their load flows and yield forecasts using data,
  • Service providers for energy communities that want to integrate forecasting features into their platforms, as well as
  • Energy sector professionals with specific requirements regarding forecast quality, data availability, or interfaces.

Interested organizations can contribute their perspectives to the development process, provide feedback on current approaches, or collaborate with Salzburg Research to explore opportunities for pilot testing. The aim is to encourage open, professional dialogue that bridges the gap between research and practical application from the outset.
