Visit of State Secretary Muna Duzdar

Austrian State Secretary Muna Duzdar, who is responsible for digitization in Austrai, was convinced last Friday by the research work at Salzburg Research.

“Digittization penetrates all areas of life, society and business as a cross-section and changes existing business and working models. In order to master this change in the best possible way for the benefit of all stakeholders, forward-looking, neutral research is enormously important. The Research Institute Salzburg Research is an invaluable tool to help people and the economy to benefit from digital innovations,” says State Secretary Muna Duzdar.

Salzburg Research presented the research location Salzburg as well as two selected research projects:

  • Digital communication technologies: Peter Dorfinger, head of the Advanced Networking Center research team, presented two prototypes from Salzburg Research, developed from international research collaboration: Mobile Broadband Extenders / Wireless Gateways – Digital mobile communication for deployment forces
  • Digital transformation through industry 4.0: Petra Stabauer, co-worker in the research line iLab presented the result of a current study in Austria.

Mobile Broadband Extender

Within the framework of the EU project IDIRA, Salzburg Research developed a crystal-clear, mobile communication infrastructure for international catastrophe deployments. The communication solution was then adapted so that it also ensures reliable broadband connections during daily operations: the Mobile Broadband Extender from Salzburg Research is self-contained and is very easy to install. The broadband connection is provided either wirelessly and / or by cable and is thus usable for all end devices – tablets, laptops, desktop PCs and mobile phones. The Mobile Broadband Extender offers a range of applications. In addition to operational organizations, companies or individuals who often travel in poorly supplied areas and need a broadband connection also benefit.

Digital transformation through industry 4.0 and new business models

Over the last few months, Salzburg Research has dealt intensively with the digital transformation through industry 4.0 in Austria. A total of 68 Austrian companies were interviewed by means of qualitative interviews.

The objectives of this current study on behalf of BMVIT are:

  • Better understanding of digital transformation (“industry 4.0”) in Austria
  • Aid for companies in decision-making through their I40 strategy
  • Evidence-based support for policy choices

The first two studies have already been published and are available for download (in German):
