Christiane Pedit Receives Science Award

Christiane Pedit from Salzburg Research was awarded the Science Prize of AK Salzburg for her dissertation. On 29 November 2016 the awards were given at the Parkhotel Brunauer in front of about 100 guests.

With her dissertation on the topic “Incentive Effects through Tax Breaks? Empirical Evidence and Suggestions de legefernda on the Employer’s Contribution to Childcare”, Christiane Pedit was one of five award winners in the field of business and law. In her work, she raised the question of whether tax-exempt employer’s allowances for childcare as an incentive model of the 2009 tax reform would be adopted by the companies and implemented in practice. The results of the work document a very low interest in the employer’s allowance for childcare as well as an astonishingly high dissatisfaction with the detailed tax design.

The Science Award of the AK Salzburg

For the fourth time, AK Salzburg has issued a science award to support new findings for a more fair and future-oriented society. The jury was filled with high-profile representatives from the Salzburg universities.

“Science creates important foundations for future developments. It can lead to more justice and sustainability. This is why the AK is just as important in its own home as it is at the universities. This is why we promote scientific work that can lead to more fairness in a variety of ways. The work of many committed researchers is indispensable for the diversity and future viability of a society. This demonstration of and employment with social alternatives, for example to the still prevailing neoliberalism, we honor”, says AK-Director Gerhard Schmidt.

The AK Science Prize was awarded in the categories “Society-relevant topic”, “Future- and technical-scientific topic” and in the area “Economy and Law”. It was possible to submit who completed a thesis of a master, diploma or doctorate degree at the university of applied science or at the University of Salzburg in 2015 or 2016, which deals with the working and living conditions of employees and their improvement.
