MUST – Multimodal traffic control through the combination of innovative information channels
The aim of the MUST project is to directly and indirectly influence mobility behavior in terms of climate and environmentally friendly traffic management through traffic avoidance, modal shift and traffic improvement. This is to be achieved by testing and evaluating the effectiveness of traffic information tailored to user groups via (new) information and communication channels using pilots in test corridors.
The aim of the project is the development, testing and evaluation of concepts for the improved use of information channels and the establishment of new communication channels that correspond to the behavioural habits of the user groups (= information types), especially against the background of increasing multimodal mobility offers.
The MUST project – multimodal traffic control through combination of innovative communication channels – spans the range from a detailed analysis of existing information channels (Which traffic information channels exist nationally/internationally and which specifics do they have?) to the linking of these information offers with the users’ interests (How do users currently inform themselves when making mobility decisions and how would they like the information offers to look?)
The user interests are mapped in customer journeys – first (a) openly enquired, then (b) specifically for the customer journey “Routine commute to work” and “Non-routine leisure journey” and finally (3) related to the specifics of the corridors in MUST (e.g. “When and how do I inform myself about my routes before starting my journey or during a traffic jam on the A10?” or “How do I plan my journey to the football match in Linz before starting my journey and how do I respond to a traffic jam while on the way to the stadium?”).
The aim is to create targeted information offers (“group ideals”) for different user groups so that they can be serviced (and influenced) with regard to sustainability when implementing the respective measures. This will also aid in achieving general goals of traffic management, such as efficient infrastructure use and strengthening sustainable modes. This shall be realised…
…by testing the users’ wishes in the corridors (How can the group ideals be tested? Embedded in a solution space of information channels that are available within the consortium, but also by means of new information channels that can still be developed in the project. It will be tested which information bundles can be used to transport traffic information across target groups in order to achieve positive effects).
…by measuring the effects and deriving recommendations for action (what direct effects can be measured from the implemented measures or what indirect effects can be derived from them?).
