Ludwig Boltzmann Institut “Digital Health and Prevention”

Digital technologies for sustainable lifestyle changes after cardiovascular disease to maintain long-term health after hospitalization.

Studies show that many patients improve their health during an inpatient spa or rehabilitation stay, but often relapse into old behavioral patterns afterwards, sometimes even finding themselves worse off than before. This is where the new Ludwig Boltzmann Institute (LBI) “Digital Health and Prevention” comes in. Among other things, the goal is to use digital technologies to contribute sustainably to lifestyle changes after cardiovascular disease and to permanently maintain improved health after a hospital stay. Movement plays a key role in this. Salzburg Research will contribute significantly with its expertise in sensor-based movement analysis. Methodologically, approaches from open innovation in science will also play an important role in finding new, yet unusual, solutions across disciplines.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute (LBI) “Digital Health and Prevention” is headed by Prim. Univ.-Prof. DDr. Josef Niebauer and will receive funding for seven years starting October 1, 2019. Annual funding volume is approximately EUR 1.3 million. In addition to Salzburg Research, other partners include the Salzburg State Hospitals, the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), and the Paracelsus Private Medical University of Salzburg. The institute is funded by the Ludwig Boltzmann Society and the State of Salzburg.
