The Long Night of Research is unique. It is the largest event for science and research in the German-speaking world. Every 2 years, innovative findings and groundbreaking technologies are made accessible to a broad audience for one evening throughout Austria. The province of Salzburg and the Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft (Research Society) are also always involved.

After the postponement of the event originally planned for spring 2020, the Long Night of Research took place digitally for the first time in autumn 2020. 650 video contributions allowed a look behind the scenes of domestic research for almost three months in this extraordinary year.

On 20 May 2022, the Long Night of Research is to be held again as a face-to-face event, if possible.

at several locations throughout Salzburg, including at Salzburg Research in the Science City Salzburg
Jakob-Haringer-Str. 5, 5020 Salzburg

The programme is currently being developed.

The LNF aims to present science and research in an innovative, understandable and entertaining way with free admission. The spectrum ranges from pre-scientific work at schools to cutting-edge research, from basic research to lead projects of application-oriented research and successful innovations from companies. The Long Night of Research has become a fixed point for the open dialogue between science and society. Since 2005, the biennial event with its growing programme has attracted increasing interest from all sections of the population and age groups. This makes the LNF also a contact exchange where young people can experience the latest developments and technologies in a playful way and get to know training facilities, fields of application and the jobs of the future.
