New Advisory Board Confirms Direction

Salzburg Research has been working intensively on a strategic realignment in recent months. The newly established advisory board has now confirmed that Salzburg Research’s position on the subject of “Motion Data Intelligence” is forward-looking.

People, products and machines are in motion and increasingly wirelessly networked, sensor technology is getting smaller and smaller. This enormous dynamic offers new opportunities for society and the economy. With the background of constantly changing digital technologies with market-changing innovation potential, the research institute Salzburg Research will focus on the topic of “Motion Data Intelligence” in the future. A newly established Advisory Board now held its first meeting on site, examined the strategic direction and gave feedback on the realignment.

New Focus On Motion Data Intelligence

“With Motion Data Intelligence we make the movement of things measurable, link them reliably, develop software for meaningful analyses and thus increase added value and efficiency”, says Salzburg Research Maaging Director Siegfried Reich. With this know-how, Salzburg Research is the first point of contact for innovative companies and a neutral intermediary between research, business and the public sector.

“Great respect for what has been built up here at Salzburg Research. The chosen topics are highly relevant and fit well with the region. A good technical basis has already been created in many areas that guarantees sustainability and longevity”, the members of the newly created Advisory Board at Salzburg Research agree.

From The Laboratory To Real Life

As before, Salzburg Research will primarily implement technical research and development projects. The new focus includes new as well as already established topics, such as automated mobility, traffic analysis, movement feedback for athletes, exercise incentives for older or chronically ill people, movement coordination in collaborative robotics and suchlike.

As an application-oriented research institute, Salzburg Research is increasingly going from laboratory to real testing. For example, in 2020 technologies for the automated Digibus® will be tested and further developed in real mixed traffic. A large field tst with a technically supported exercise program for the 55+ generation is currently being tested by more than a hundred people over several months in their own four walls.

Orientation In The Salzburg Innovation Structure

Salzburg Research is a central instrument of the State of Salzburg to ensure competitiveness. The non-university research institute Salzburg Research can look back on a successful history of 24 years of research. 20 years ago – on January 19, 2000 – the State of Salzburg became the sole owner of the research institute. In the course of the Science and Innovation Strategy of the State of Salzburg (WISS), all Salzburg research institutions are currently called upon to sharpen their thematic focus and thus also the integration into the Salzburg research landscape.

“The so-called research pipeline – from basic research at universities through applied research in non-university research institutions to implementation on the market – is a long process. The strategic, application-oriented approach fits very well with the basic research of the Salzburg universities and other research institutions. Salzburg Research is also well positioned for the upcoming European and national research programs and answers current questions about the future of companies”, says Chairman of the Supervisory Board Bernd Petrisch.
