Day of the Open Science City

Within the framework of the month of knowledge, which is called by the City of Salzburg, numerous organizations in and around the Science City Itzling open their doors to the public on May 12, 2017, 3 pm to 8 pm. Salzburg Research also gives insights into current research work.

The Science City Itzling is the center for enterprises as well as teaching and research facilities in the high-tech area. On May 12th, local organizations in and around the Techno-Z Salzburg offer exciting insights into IT research and new technologies, geoinformatics, making and 3D printing, flight simulations as well as physics and chemistry. Salzburg Research, the University of Salzburg, CoWorking Space and HappyLab Salzburg are part of the program.

“Research does not happen in the proverbial ivory tower. Because knowledge is there for everyone! The day of the open Science City offers an opportunity to get in touch with experts, to learn new things and to try out technologies”, says Siegfried Reich, Managing Director of Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft

From 3 pm to 8 pm, interested people can look over the shoulder of the researchers at Salzburg Research and experience new technologies at first hand. Learn more to improve wireless transmission, you will also be using the traffic app to the StauFux or model your own 3D model for 3D printing.

Broadband for poorly served areas

Crisis suitable, mobile communication infrastructure for deployment organizations and international disaster relief: Salzburg Research enables stable, mobile broadband connection in poorly supplied areas.

Improve wireless transmission

Experience first-hand how wireless transmission (W-LAN, Bluetooth and Co.) works. Salzburg Research shows how you can influence and improve the signal strength yourself.

Become a StauFux and support traffic planning

With the new App from Salzburg Research, you will not only get the latest, minute-accurate traffic delays directly on your smartphone. They remain guaranteed anonymously and at the same time help also the Salzburg traffic planners.

Forward-looking sensors prevent interference

Thousands of small hydropower plants, wind turbines and photovoltaic plants produce autonomous vital energy. Smart sensors and the Internet of Things help to react to faults in the future as well as prevent maintenance and repair work.

Become creative during “making” yourself!

Active station especially for children and adolescents: creative and do-it-yourself, analogue and digital to try out and participate: go on a discovery tour with the screwdriver and explore the inner life of a computer, model your own artworks that are printed in 3D or tinker LEDs.

Workshops for students: 3D modelling and printing

On the 12th of May, there will be additional workshops for pupils aged 10 to 15 years:

Workshop in the morning: 3D modelling and printing

Experience the benefits of a 3D printer. Experience how a three-dimensional work piece is created from the planning to the design on the computer to the actual expression. Find your own artworks and print them out in 3D!

The Month of Knowledge May

The day of the open Science City is part of the Month of Knowledge May: The month of May is at the forefront of knowledge. From 28 April to 3 June 2017 the knowledge facilities in the city of Salzburg show their skills and invite you to participate.

Together with the knowledge institutions such as Salzburg Research, a versatile program was created that appeals to a broad public. The interactive offer is easy to undertand, what is worked in the Salzburg knowledge and education institutions, arouses the curiosity and invites you to join in.
