ITS Austria West – Operation of Intelligent Transport Services for Salzburg, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg
As part of ITS Austria West (ITSAW), a public-public cooperation initiative, Salzburg Research collaborates with the provinces of Salzburg, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg to provide central intelligent transport services in western Austria. The aim of this collaboration is to provide reliable, high-quality, up-to-date traffic data to support modern traffic management, planning, and information systems.
At the heart of the collaboration lies the joint operation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) services, including real-time traffic information and forecasts, and the central Floating Car Data (FCD) service. These services provide anonymized, consistent travel time and traffic data throughout Austria and are connected to the national traffic data platform, EVIS.AT (Real-Time Traffic Information Austria).
Salzburg Research is responsible for the technical development, operation, and continuous improvement of IT systems. This involves processing and merging various data sources (e.g., traffic count and vehicle data), calculating real-time and forecast data, and making data available via standardized interfaces. Salzburg Research also supports its cooperation partners with analyses, evaluations, and strategic issues relating to intelligent transport systems.
ITS Austria West collects traffic data, uses it efficiently, and makes it available in accordance with European and national regulations. This collaboration empowers the public sector as the holder of data sovereignty and contributes significantly to enhancing traffic safety, efficiency, and sustainability within the road network.
