In 2014, Verena Venek finished her master’s studies to receive the degree of Dipl.-Ing. in Health Care IT from the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. Her master thesis is entitled “Automatic Suicidal Risk Assessment based on Clinician-Patient Verbal and Nonverbal Behavior”. She conducted this study/master project as a research assistant at the Institute for Creative Technologies of the University of Southern California supervised by Stefan Scherer and supported by the Marshall Plan Scholarship 2014 of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation.
Since 2015 she is part of the Mobile and Web-based Information Systems department at Salzburg Research and mainly works in the research field of e-Health participating in projects like ZentrAAL and CareInMovement. Her research fields of interest are data mining dealing with spatiotemporal data, and data modelling in active and assisted living (AAL) and other human-related areas like sports and rehabilitation. Currently, she is additionally working on her doctoral studies in the fields of smart wearables and textiles and the data analysis of which information can be used to acquire and assess the posture and movement performance of people.
