FYI: Software for Couch Potatos
(image from www.beforebaby.com)
The current issue of technology review, argues in an article by Gregor Honsel for “Software fürs Sofa”. The argument is based on the distinction between “lean-in” and “lean-back” users, where the couch potato is the lean-back user and the typical PC-/Web-user is the lean-user (i.e., those guys that like to install plugins, updates, etc.).
In interactive digital television, two new tools have emerged: joost.com and babelgum.com, both use a similar technique to better use bandwith (the core idea is that clients send data to other clients in a peer-to-peer fashion so that bandwith is saved).
