Thomas Kurz received his master degree at the University of Passau, Germany in 2008. In his master thesis he investigated XML compression techniques for complex datatypes in the field of XML-based Rich Internet Applications, in particular for Scalable Vector Graphics, extending Efficient XML Interchange Format. Thomas joined the Knowledge and Media Technologies group of Salzburg Research in January 2009. His research interests are Semantic Web technologies in combination with multimedia, human-computer interaction regarding to RDF metadata, and Semantic Search. Since August 2010 he is doing his PhD at the University of Passau under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Kosch (Department of Distributed Information Systems). The topics of Thomas’ PhD are publishing, interlinking and retrieval of multimedia in the world of Linked Data. Thomas is involved in the European project KIWI (EU FP7 STREP) and the Austrian Competence Centre for New Media (Salzburg NewMediaLab TNG).
